When you watch as many movies as I do, you're bound to find some real gems. These are my favourite films of all time.

A-Z

Top 10

#1

Phantom Thread

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson

Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread is maybe the most enchanting film I've ever seen, with stunning performances, a deeply personal narrative, and quite possibly the best cinematic score ever produced by none other than Jonny Greenwood. This is a film I could watch over and over and never get tired of, a masterpiece.

#2

Fantastic Mr Fox

Directed by Wes Anderson

Easily my favourite of Anderson's filmography. A beautifully animated retelling of Roald Dahl's classic novel, Fantastic Mr Fox is both a heart-warming film for all ages, and an exploration of what it really means to be alive.

#3

The Shining

Directed by Stanley Kubrick

Kubrick's finest film in my view, an example of a perfect adaptation of a novel. Kubrick takes Stephen Kings story and uses it to craft one of the best horror films ever made, which acts below the surface as a metaphor for the true horrors of humanity, the cycle of violence and atrocities committed throughout history.

#4

The Royal Tenenbaums

Directed by Wes Anderson

For me, The Royal Tenenbaums is the film that started off my love for cinema. It was my first exposure to films as an art from, and I give full Credit to Wes Anderson for waking me up to a world of amazing cinema that otherwise I may never have experienced.

#5

The Grand Budapest Hotel

Directed by Wes Anderson

Wes Anderson has shown over the years that he really has become the master of his own style, and that is as clear as ever in The Grand Budapest Hotel. An epic story told over 3 generations, the film is both visually stunning and completely charming, and is in many ways one of the finest comedies ever made.

#6

Before Sunrise

Directed by Richard Linklater

No films have ever captured the essence of love and the human spirit quite like Richard Linklater's "Before Trilogy", and Before Sunrise was the one that started it all off, following 2 characters around Vienna as they wander aimlessly, falling in love with each other and the city simultaneously.

#7

La La Land

Directed by Damien Chazelle

Quite simply one of the best films ever made, La La Land explores the burning desire to follow your dreams and highlights the beauty that artistic expression brings into the world. If there was ever a film to make you fall in love with cinema, this is it.

#8

Shutter Island

Directed by Martin Scorcese

Martin Scorsese has numerous fantastic films under his belt, but for me Shutter Island shows his range extends beyond gangster stories and anti-heroes. A film that you have to watch multiple times to truly experience, Shutter Island is littered with small details that enhance the story and shed light on the ambiguous nature of its events.

#9

The Silence Of The Lambs

Directed by Jonathan Demme

On the surface a perfect crime thriller, below that surface a metaphor for the struggles of women who long to be take seriously in a male dominated world. The Silence of the Lambs is timeless, with career defining performances from Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster, and some of the most iconic moments in film history.

#10

The Social Network

Directed by David Fincher
